Reservation, The truth lies and the protest.

Today I saw a petition, not meant to ban reservation but asking for a non political, non parliamentary committee to look into the reservation. It was signed by mere 900 people, while other petitions asking for a total stop on reservation was singed by thousands.

The mere contrast in numbers was a reflection to me that, we Indians do not want a solution but want someone to solve the problems. That was reflected, sadly in our political class and more sadly even in certain sections of the new generation.

We forget that reservation was only means to an end which is ending the social nightmare of thousands of less fortunate; but our politicians would like to differ. Economical reservations make sense but then there is no data of an economic class voting for a particular party but yes support of particular caste is very common.
The means of reservation if used to uplift those who are suffering from centuries; should ripe its benefit of whole country growing.

The new generation has helped the politicians even widen the gap between the general and the so called socially backward classes. There are many jokes; cartoons and other articles that actually attack the SC/ST and OBC in a politically correct way. Is this what was expected of a generation which is suppose to change the face of country, a country that is considered third world by most people abroad.

I am more scared when I see people not fighting for a solution but to make their point in a problem and enlarge it. Does it make sense that if we increase all seats in such a way that the number of seats available to general category remains unchanged and we give reservation to economically backward people? Also would it make sense to recommend that a minimum level of talent should be required even from reserved students to not hamper the quality?

If I can come up with two simple solution to these complicated problems then the intellectuals at top and would be intellects should be able to list I don’t know how many. We fight the battles we can win and we fight them in a way that we win them. Let us support a solution and not be part of the problem
